IKP FAMILY MEDICINE’S FAQ’S

Feel Free to Ask Us Your Questions

Q: Do you accept my HMO insurance?

A: We accept most HMO insurance plans, however you must designate one of the IKP physicians as your Primary Care Provider, (or P.C. P.), in order to allow us to treat you. Most HMOs only allow you to change your P.C.P. on a monthly basis, usually at the beginning of the month. Please contact your particular insurance carrier to obtain more detailed information on how to designate or change your P.C.P.

Q: What do I do after clinic hours:

A: There is a doctor in the group on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you have an urgent, non-life threatening problem, please call our answering service at 281-453-9354. If you have an emergency, proceed to the closest emergency room or call 911.

Q: I’ve left a message for my provider. When should I expect a call back?

A: We strive to return messages with 24 hours, Monday through Friday, during normal business hours.

Q: Can I get my Pap Smear done at the same time as a physical?

A: No. A Pap Smear is part of a Well Woman Exam and is separate from an adult physical which is also considered to be a preventative exam. Check with your individual insurance carrier to identify your annual preventative health benefits.

Q: Do I have to have an office visit in order to obtain a referral?

A: Yes. The insurance companies require documentation for every referral prior to authorization.

Q: How soon can I see a healthcare provider?

A: We have same day appointments available. Call us at 281.587.1700 to see the next available appointments.
